Sons of Silver is a relatively new Rock band that started out in 2020 with their debut EP, Doomsday Noises, and they come from Los Angeles, providing a brand of Rock ‘N’ Roll that has some Punk influences and also some Blues-influenced riffs, thus adding a bit of variety to their musical proposal.

The band is made out of drummer Dave Krusen, bassist Adam Kury, guitarist Kevin Haaland, keyboardist Brina Kabler and singer Peter Argyropoulos, and their upcoming EP, Ordinary Sex Appeal, seems like a step in the right direction for the group as a whole.

You can tell by listening to this EP that this is a band that has some really strong music roots: they like their Rock ‘N’ Roll raw, straight to the point and without a lot of experiments. In fact, I would say that their music is very straightforward and they are quite good at that, which is complicated for a lot of groups because not a lot of bands can keep you entertained for three or four minutes, so they deserve a lot of credit in that particular regard.

One of the things missing from Rock bands these days is songwriting and this group clearly has it, which is one of their strongest suits, especially when you add Argyropoulos’ vocals to the equations. He reminds me to some vocalists from the original Punk movement, although he also has some undertones of New Wave singers. Regardless, he has this warm and accessible ring to his voice that really fits these songs and adds another layer of melody to the band as a whole, which is something worth pointing out.

As far as the production goes, I think it does the job well. Sure, it’s not very crisp or crystal clear, but I think that was their whole point because it translates a lot better to the live setting. I might have added a bit more volume to the drums, but this is just me! I am glad that the bass did get a bit of love in this mix and that doesn’t always happen.

I think the lead single, Who’s Gonna Stop Us, is a very good sample of what this EP is all about: straightforward riffs, a good vocal performances and some addictive grooves that stick in your mind from the very second that you listen to it. If you want something raw in your Rock, then this song is going to do the job for you.

The lyrics are quite interesting as well. It’s not superficial sex, drugs and Rock ‘N’ Roll stuff; there are some thoughts thrown into this and it fits well with the music, which is an underrated aspect of songwriting. I always suggest people to read the lyrics of the music they listen to and this case is no different.

Overall, this was a very enjoyable EP. If you want to listen some quality, old fashioned Rock ‘N’ Roll, then Sons of Silver is the group for you.
