Game Of Thrones Season 8

Written by on May 7, 2019

Once again, Game of Thrones is upon us. The eighth and final season of the HBO’s fantasy drama television series premiered on April 14, 2019 to worldwide appeal. Scheduled to conclude on May 19, 2019, the epic series has broken all possible records as millions of followers excitedly returned to Westeros with their favorite characters. So far, a lot has happened and will take a brief look at what we have seen so far down to the fourth episode:

Episode 1: Winterfell

Titled Winterfell, this episode saw the arrival of Jon Snow at Winterfell with Daenerys Targeryen, her two surviving dragons, and her army of the Unsullied and Dothraki. The reunion of the Starks was a good thing to see but it is also evident that Sansa is not too pleased with her brother’s queen. Their frosty relationship became more glaring when Tyrion Lanister made a statement to the lords in the North that the Mother of Dragons with her army and the approaching Lanister army will help to fight the White Walker. Jon Snow learnt of his family ties to the Targaryen from Samwell and was obviously shaken. Euron Greyjoy’s return to King’s Landing saw him succeed at bedding Queen Cersei. Theon Greyjoy redeemed himself by returning to free sister Yara from Euron’s ship. As Jamie Lanister arrived Winterfell, he is reminded of his past evils by Bran, the stark boy he crippled in the very first episode of the series. The Night King is coming!

Episode 2: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

The Night King will arrive before sunrise so everyone has to prepare for the inevitable. Tyrion and his recently pardoned brother, Jamie, spent the night drinking by the fireside. Brienne of Tarth was deservedly knighted. Arya and Gendry decided that the best way to spend their last night on earth will be to have sex. Sansa and The Mother of Dragons decided to talk like adults even though their nice chat didn’t end so nice. Jon Snow was clearly avoiding Daenerys until she caught up with him. He confronted her with his new-found knowledge and before they could sort out their issues, the Night King arrived with his army; the battle of the living and the dead just started.

Episode 3: The Long Night

The battle of Winterfell, the major battle between the living and the death raged all night. As you would expect, many of the living were joining the dead in the most gruesome manner. The Night King was also keen to kill Bran Stark and bring endless darkness. Arya Stark, the darling of many, saved the day, sneaking through a whole army of white walkers to kill the Night King and his entire army instantly. The end of the battle between the living and the dead did not end without its toll: Jorah Mormont died protecting Daenerys Targeryen while Theon Greyjoy died defending Bran Stark till the last minute.

Episode 4: The Last of the Starks

This episode gave more heartbreaking deaths. One would imagine that as we all march to King’s Landing, the journey will be easier for The Mother of Dragons. What transpired is a complete opposite of that: Daenerys Targeryen incurred more losses. First, it was Rhaegal, another of her dragons when Euron Greyjoy’s fleet attacked. The second loss was more devastating; Missandei was executed on top of the battlements as Daenerys and Grey Worm watched in bewilderment. It is unlikely that there will be peace in King’s Landing anytime soon.

It is hard to imagine what to expect in episode 5. We do hope that the whole of the seven Kingdoms don’t get burnt to the ground in the last few episodes of Game of Thrones.
